Here are our 2012 board members...

President: Cathy Solomon

Cathy has served on the board for the last seven years and a member of Laguna Sea Dwellers for nine! It has been so much fun and a joy to be part of such a thriving organization and one of the best dive clubs in Southern California! Above all, my favorite part has been getting to know the members of the club and developing many good friendships! As Vice President and Member at Large, I enjoyed helping organize the various diving and social activities as well as help to facilitate the organization of the club as a non-profit corporation. As President in 2009, 2010, and 2011, I worked with a fantastic board and committees on a number of initiatives: promoting membership through new recruiting programs and retention; strengthening relationships with various dive shops; promoting club beach diving activities and Southern California boat dives; supporting warm-water trip promotions through various dive-travel operators; lining up fun and interesting speakers for the club meetings; and soliciting and encouraging new ideas from the general membership. The board, committee members, and I have nurtured a mindset of community amongst the members, as well as encouraging friendly relationships with other clubs, a variety of shops, and the dive boats. As a result, our club membership is 205+, and we consistently have great turnouts at our meetings, boat trips, and events. I am committed to continuing similar initiatives and welcoming more involvement from the membership in the spirit of strengthening our dive community and providing a platform for even better dive-related experiences.

Vice President: Debbie Karimoto

Debbie has been diving for 10 years and has logged almost 700 dives. Most of her dives have been local but she has also dived off Belize, Little Cayman, Hawaii's Maui, Kona and Lanai, and the Philippines Islands near Anilao. She loves taking underwater photos and is an info junkie for marine policy and dive community interests.

She operates an online dive community called OCdiving News and welcomes your free subscription to its News list. (news-subscribe@ocdiving.com)

Debbie has a BA degree in Environmental Analysis and Design from UC Irvine and works as an environmental consultant and a Realtor. She and her husband Derek live in Mission Viejo and have 2 grown kids.

Secretary: Dianne Buckner

I moved to California in 2008, was certified (diving) in July 2009. I work as a hospice nurse locally. I am honored to be secretary of this wonderful group of divers. I was secretary for a large chapter of the Navy League of the United States for several years before moving from St. Louis, MO.

Treasurer: Kirk Wolshyn

LSD has given me much enjoyment over the years. I would like to give back to the club. During my time with LSD I have been actively involved in several club functions, most notably, the luaus. This year, along with Diane Buckner, I was half of the steering committee for the luau’s food group. As a member of the steering committee I was responsible for planning a major portion of the luau and bringing it in on budget. The luau also required coordinating with the other groups involved, boats, entertainment, etc. I enjoyed doing the work involved and felt a sense of pride and accomplishment in giving back to the club.

Membership: Nancy Kluve

I am a native Californian and began my diving certifications and experiences in 2005. Currently as a Divemaster, I enjoy working with instructors and new students along with conducting refresher courses. I dive Laguna Beach and Catalina year round along with tropical dives. In 2008 I held the Membership Chair position and have been on the Special Projects Committee through the years. As we know, LSD is an active and exciting dive club!
